The Band
The Blues Merchants began several years ago as a weekly host jam band at a small club in Sydney, Nova Scotia. It quickly became the spot to be each week for local musicians and music lovers as well. The bands favorable reputation has also spread to other parts of the province.

Over the years the personnel of the band changed but it still enjoys a two-man original nucleus who continue to tie it all together. Original band members include Ian Aker on saxes, flute, harp and vocals and Mark MacQueen on keyboards, harp and vocals. The remaining members include Dave McKeough on guitar and vocals, Fred Lavery on guitar, Eddie Burke on bass and vocals and Gordie LeVatte on drum kit. The band plays a great mix of good-time Blues, Rhythm and Blues and Blues/Rock...in general...Party Music!

The Blues Merchants have completed their debut album. It was recorded and mixed at the award winning Lakewind Sound Studios (ECMA 2000, MIANS 1999) in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. The band was also nominated this year for an ECMA (Blues Artist/Group of the year.
